The Technology Behind It
We use OpenAI Whisper, a state-of-the-art automatic speech recognition (ASR) model trained on 680,000 hours of multilingual audio. It's the same technology that powers some of the most accurate transcription products in the world — except here, it runs on our own server, not through a third-party API.
That matters for two reasons: speed and privacy. Your file goes directly to our server, gets transcribed by Whisper, and the result comes straight back to you. Nothing is shared with OpenAI, Google, or any other service. The model runs entirely on our infrastructure.
We also generate SRT subtitle files automatically — with precise timestamps for every spoken segment — so you can drop the output straight into YouTube, Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, or any other platform that accepts captions.
A Note on Keeping This Free
Running servers costs money, and AI inference isn't cheap. We cover costs through minimal, non-intrusive advertising displayed on the site. We don't sell user data. We don't require registration so we can build an email list. The ads are how the lights stay on — nothing more.
